Lachie Hall's Blog # 2 For 3/4B

Xin Chao (pronounced seen chow- meaning hello) 3/4 B,

Thanks for reading my blog.

By the way that building in the photo from my first blog was the elephant house. It's called the elephant house because of its height. In the part of Vietnam where these types of houses are built elephant's live and if they don't want to get their house knocked down they need to make it high.

The basket boat was a very big round boat made out of bamboo and looked like a basket. It had a frame inside it to sit down on to. That was NOT a spring onion on my head, that was actually a water palm leaf, Brooke!

We have done quite a lot of stuff since the last blog. We travelled to Vinpearl Land which is in Nha Trang in a cable car which stretched across the sea. Vinpearl land had lots of rides like a roller coaster that you could control yourself. It had a 550m climb up a hill and then when you got to the top you had a 1220m downhill track that you controlled how fast you went and braked when you wanted to. The top speed was around 30-40km per hour. There was a ride that spun you around and upside down. Bec almost fell out and you stayed upside down for around 5-10 seconds. There was water slides there as well as you will see in the photos. We saw an animal show with dogs and monkeys that performed tricks.

My sisters went para sailing and I went jet skiing for 15 minutes. Five minutes of it I drove it without my Dad on the back. We have gone to lots of different types of restaurants and they were all good. I liked the Italian place the most.

We flew into Saigon today and we will spend four nights here. We are going on a city tour tomorrow and then on a cruise on the Mekong Delta River a couple of days after that. Then we will fly home the next day.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Chao (pronounced chow - meaning goodbye) 3/4 B!

Mel Hall's Vietnam Blog # 1

So far we have been having a fantastic holiday! What we don't realise is that it is soon to be over. The holiday has gone by so quickly and it feels like we only just got off the plane!

We started off the holiday in a very big city called Hanoi. In Hanoi we went on a city sight seeing tour where we visited several different museums and Ho Chi Min's house. We learnt alot about Ho Chi Min and the way he lived. We learnt that he only had three sets of clothing and one hat.

We couldn't keep track of all the Vietnamese street names so we just made up names by ourselves. We went down shoe street many times and bought five pairs of vans.

We then went on an over night cruise in Ha Long Bay for my birthday. I got happy birthday sung to me by people from 4 different countries. After that we went to Hoi Ann. We went on an 8 hour cycling tour around the country side to see how the villagers lived. In Hoi An we got lots of things made like clothes and shoes.

We also spent some of our time relaxing at our five star resort and swimming in the 150 metre pool. Our next stop was at Nha Trang, which is known for its beaches and is also where some young people go. Bec and I went para-sailing along the bay which was loads of fun. We visited Vin Pearl Land which is a Theme and Water park on an Island which we travelled to by cable car.

We hopped on a plane and now we are in Ho Chi Min City which used to be known as Saigon. So far we have spent most of the time wandering around and getting used to the surroundings.

I have been having a great holiday and can't wait to get away from the heat. Most days the temperature is around 35 - 40 degrees but it is really sticky. See you soon and don't miss me too much! I miss you heaps Carly, Megie, Leah, Brooke and Hannah!!!!!! BYE!!! :) Look forward to seeing the rest of 5/6ST when I get back!!!

PS: Hope you don't get jealous that every morning we wake up to a breakfast buffet and I sometimes have chocolate donuts and vanilla tarts!!!

PSS: I have included lots of photos for you to look at. I can explain more about them when I'm back at school.

From Mel.

Lachie Hall's Blog Number 1

Dear 3/4 B,

I'm having a fantastic holiday because we've done lot's of things like cruising on Halong Bay, shopping, cooking demonstrations and cycling tours. So far the cities we have stayed at are Hanoi and Hoi An and we will be leaving for Nha Trang in a couple of days. In Hoi An we are staying at a resort called Golden Sands resort. There is a pool that is 150 metres long. That is 15 of our pools, and ours is 10 metres long. We have been shopping a lot because I've got a wooden boat, a wooden harley davidson, adidas muscle shirt, wooden scooter(a motor one) and a pair of nike runners. I had 3 million dong to spend, but I don't have that much now. I do have another $78 dollars to spend as well as 1.5 million dong.

We are experiencing a lot of the Vietnamese culture and trying different foods. In some places here there are kids sleeping on bamboo mats and people sitting on the floor to eat. There are a lot of street children coming up to you to ask you to buy something. They always say can you please buy some thing so then I can go to school. We have had a cooking demo and I had a turn. When I did it  there was heaps of fire coming up from the pan. We went on a cycling tour where we went to a fishing village, a pottery village and we also went on a basket boat.

I've posted lots of photos and I will do another blog soon.

Bye from Lachie H.
